Land O’ Lakes Bike and Pedestrian Trail

An easy ride into a wild place

You can go beyond civilization and still find time to coast. An easy-riding paved trail will take you through the beautiful wilderness west of Land O’ Lakes. The Land O’ Lakes Bike and Pedestrian Trail is a great way to explore the area’s wild scenery on two wheels. It’s perfect for families with children and it connects to options for those seeking a longer ride.

The Land O’ Lakes Bike and Pedestrian Trail is not plowed in the winter but it’s still a place to experience the wilderness – when there’s snow the trail is used by cross-country skiers and snowshoers. There’s no fee to use the trail.

The trail runs 12 miles west out of Land O’ Lakes, paralleling beautiful County Highway B. The trail traverses miles of forested landscape, passing Black Oak Lake, known as the clearest lake in Wisconsin. There’s a beach and picnic area at the lake, a pleasant place for a rest stop. Restrooms are available at the beach, as well as the Land O’ Lakes Chamber of Commerce and the Land O’ Lakes Town Hall. The trail also passes dining options in Land O’ Lakes. Ample parking is available at the chamber, the town hall, Black Oak Lake Beach, the Forest Lake Boat Landing, across from the Forest Lake Country Store, on the corner of County Highway B & Deer Farm Road and on the corner of County Road S & County Road B.

The western half of the trail offers some of the best scenery so riders who plan to explore part of the trail may want to choose this segment: Just start your ride at Black Oak Beach and ride west. The trail terminates at the corner of Highway B and Deer Farm Road.

Riders who want the adventure to continue can continue riding north out of Land O’ Lakes on the 13-mile Agonikak National Recreation Trail. For an even longer route that involves some scenic roads, you can ride a 37-mile route that forms a loop with the Land O’ Lakes Bike and Pedestrian Trail and the Agonikak National Recreation Trail.

When you’re riding the Land O’ Lakes Bike and Pedestrian Trail, you’ll cover some ground – the trail is smooth and provides easy pedaling. But when you’re on the trail, you may want to allow time to look around and take in this amazing forest. When you’re in a place this wild and special, there’s nothing wrong with a little coasting.

Hours

Open spring, summer, fall seasons; all but 2.7 miles closed in winter. The far western section is available for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
